Recovery efforts continue


Disaster Recovery Centers

FEMA has set up a mobile disaster recovery center (DRC) at the Venice Community Center, 326 S. Nokomis Ave., Venice, until Thursday, Sept. 28.


Disaster Survivor Assistance teams

FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance teams are currently working throughout Sarasota County. They provide support to disaster survivors at their homes or in their communities, offering options for how to access programs that can help them move forward in their recovery.

Disaster Assistance

Individuals and business owners who sustained losses due to Hurricane Irma can apply for assistance at, call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or meet in person with a FEMA representative at Bee Ridge Park, 4430 S. Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota, daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Disaster assistance applicants who have a speech disability or hearing loss and use TTY should call 1-800-462-7585 directly; for those who use 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS), call 1-800-621-3362.

  • The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice.


Army Corps of Engineers Blue Roof Program

Operation Blue Roof provides a temporary covering of blue plastic sheeting to help reduce further damage to property until permanent repairs can be made. Qualifying homeowners must sign a right of entry (ROE) form to allow government employees and contractors onto their property to assess damage and install the temporary covering. 

  • A ROE collection center is currently open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily at Bee Ridge Park, 4430 S. Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota.

Damage Assessment Teams

Sarasota County has damage assessment teams inspecting damage to residential and commercial structures. These teams look at structures that have minor, major, affected or destroyed levels. These damage reports can assist homeowners and business owners with their insurance claims.
